Who Is the Missouri Equine Council?

MEC membership is open to individuals, families, clubs, organizations or businesses interested in supporting this major agricultural, educational and recreational industry. MEC has an army of generous volunteers who help in countless ways to market, educate, and put together publications and meetings for the public. We unite the multi-million dollar equine industry in our state and are committed to representing and promoting the common interests of Missouri's equine industry. The MEC Board of Directors is made up of Missouri volunteers who are involved with a variety of breeds, disciplines, and interests.

What does the MEC Do for Our Members?

  • Email updates, newsletters, and Action Alerts for all members
  • The Annual Celebration, the MEC's yearly event which brings the horse community together and addresses current issues facing the horse industry.
  • Provide discounts through sponsors and commercial vendors
  • Members get discounts at participating companies and for advertising in the MEC newsletter.
  • FREE 60-day classified ad on our website
  • One free advertisement in our newsletter (for individual and family members only)

What Does MEC Do?

Represent the interests of horse owners before Missouri Government.

  • We monitor equine related issues in other states and at the federal level.
  • Established the Missouri Equine Limited Liability Statute.
  • Re-established equine as livestock with Missouri Department of Revenue.
  • Assisted the Department of Agriculture with it's Equine Economic Impact Study.
  • Work with Missouri Department of Agriculture, Missouri Department of Tourism, Missouri Department of Natural Resources and other agencies supportive of the equine industry.
  • MEC is a member of the American Horse Council and the American Youth Horse Council.
  • Provides Missouri's equine industry the opportunity to band together for positive change.
