Missouri is a big state for horses. There is a lot going on. Much time, planning, and travel go into representing the equine industry at events across the state. Here are just a few of the functions MEC has participated in recently.

2005

October: MEC will represent equestrian trail users and help sponsor the Second Annual Missouri Trail Summit. MEC has representation at the planning meetings throughout the year.

April: MEC board members dispensed educational material at the Ray County 4-H Equine Education Day in Richmond.

March: MEC represented the equine industry at the Missouri Department of Agriculture Shamrock Shindig in Jefferson City. Several MEC board members and staff participated by serving ‘Missouri Mint Juleps’ at this annual event.

March: MEC contracted with the Missouri Department of Agriculture to host an equine portion to the annual MDA Livestock Judging & Grading Contest. This was the first year to offer an equine component to the event. More than 200 students registered for the equine workshop and contest, which was held at Midway Exhibition Center in Columbia.

February: MEC held its 15th annual event Equine Education Days, at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Columbia. Trainer Clint Depew offered horsemanship clinics for riders. AQHA judge Jim Dudley gave a presentation from the judge’s perspective.

2004

October: MEC represented equestrian trail users at the First Annual Missouri Trail Summit in Columbia sponsored by Missouri Parks & Recreation Association, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and Missouri Department of Conservation. MEC had representation at trail summit planning meetings throughout the year.

October: MEC educated urban-area children about horses at Suson Park in St. Louis County.

August: MEC dispensed educational material at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.

March: MEC promoted the equine industry on Show Me Ag, a monthly television program based in Warrensburg.

February: MEC sponsored the 4-H State Horsemanship Judging Contest in conjunction with Equine Education Days in Columbia. Education Days also included youth horse leader training by Julie Goodnight, Program Director for the Certified Horsemanship Association. This program covered Event Safety, Teaching Techniques for Youth Leaders & Instructors and Fear Management for Riders - more than 75 youth horse leaders were in attendance. On Friday, the Julie Goodnight Horsemanship Clinic provided 12 horse owners the opportunity to learn how to work with their horses more effectively and become better riders.
