The Missouri Equine Council unites a multi-million dollar industry. MEC
is committed to representing and promoting the common interests of
Missouri's diverse equine industry, for individuals and organizations.
In 2001/2002, the Missouri Department of Agriculture, through the Missouri
Agricultural Statistics Office, conducted the first Missouri Equine Survey.
An economic impact study examining the economic benefits that the equine
industry supplies to Missouri had long been an MEC priority. MEC teamed with MDA to make this survey a reality,
along with the help of other members of the equine industry.
Read the results of the survey at http://www.agebb.missouri.edu/mass/indepth/equine/equinesurv.pdf
MEC sponsors an Annual Equine Event to promote the equine industry in
the state.
Since 1991, MEC has published an annual directory for statewide
distribution. A quarterly newsletter "Horse Sense" (formerly "The
Masthead") is the organization's major communication tool.
The Missouri Equine Council represents you through the following:
 |
Membership in the American Horse Council and the American Youth
Horse Council.
|
 |
Working with the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the
Missouri Department of Tourism, and other state, local and private
agencies supportive of the equine industry.
|
 |

interests of our members and may participate in grassroots lobbying.
Legislative Committee activities in the past include a four year endeavor

the horse as an agricultural animal to eliminate state sales tax on horses
and working with PRCA and IPRA to clarify the wording of Proposition "A"
regarding the use of equines.

Involvement in cooperative efforts with trail users and public
land managers to preserve equestrian trails for pleasure and competitive
riders.
|
 |
Teaching equine owners of all ages through seminars, clinics and
presentations. |
Decisions made by local, state and federal governments can heavily
impact Missouri's horse industry. As individual horse owners we have only
one small voice and minimal influence. But when we band together, we can
successfully represent the legislative interests of Missouri's equine
industry. The Missouri Equine Council is funded solely by your membership
dues, donations, and special fundraisers; help us to continue working for
YOU!
If you would like to assist us in these efforts, please join the Missouri
Equine Council by filling out the on-line
application, printing it and mailing the application along with
your check to the MEC Office.
